Day one for Benney

When a dog arrives at the rescue they are typically confused and unsure of their new surroundings and us. As day one becomes day two they become more comfortable – them with us and us with them. Benney arrived at the beginning of this year from a shelter in the south who labeled him as unfriendly and gave him little attention. To some his looks are intimidating. To us, he is a prince.

We came to appreciate and adore this boy. He’s good-natured, silly, a lap dog who drapes himself over anybody who sits with him, loves toys and to explore the world. He was passed over again and again, but we never lost hope. All the volunteers are in love with this boy and we knew his special day would eventually arrive.

Today was Benney’s Day One. Zach and Shan arrived this morning with a bag full of toys and treats to meet this handsome boy. In the rain, a connection was made. With tears of happy, we explained the vitamins, reviewed his file and finalized his adoption.

Zach set up a ramp to his truck and Benney trotted right up as if he’s done it a hundred times before. A Benney-bed with toys was awaiting him. Every adoption, every dog is special. Benney will be missed, but we know he’s in gentle, welcoming and loving hands. Happy life, our boy.
